VIDEO: What goes on during F1 practice?

By  |

90 minutes. That is the length of each of the three practice sessions that a Formula 1 team is given during a weekend.

During this time, the fans witness cars go around the track multiple times, with an eye on the score sheet. It’s all about seeing where their favorite driver ranks by the conclusion, in hopes they’re doing well to keep hopes high for a good result come race day.

In the garage area, the engineers are working with the driver, trying to find the most comfortable set-up that produces the quickest laps. There’s also a balance in trying to make sure they are making tire lasts, and ready to conserve fuel as F1 events have been known to come down to strategy.

So how does a team accomplish this and more in the garage? Will Buxton spent some time in the Williams garage at the Mexico Grand Prix to see the process up close.

Formula 1 recently released the video for viewing as an off-season feature.
