VIDEO: Everybody Loves a Comeback Story

By  |

The Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona always captures the attention of racing fans as it’s the unofficial start to the season of competition.

This year’s event may have been watched by some additional people, Motorsports enthusiast or not, as they were inspired by Alex Zanardi, who is becoming the first paraplegic to complete in the event.

Seeing Zanardi back behind the wheel reminds us all that a comeback story is great, no matter the sport. Formula 1 is set to write their own chapter with Robert Kubica returning this year.

In the midst of a budding open-wheel career, Kubica was involved in a serious incident in February of 2011 that nearly killed him. While competing in a rally event in Testico, his car left the road at a high rate of speed, hitting a crash barrier. It would take an hour before he would be rescued, where he’d be diagnosed with a partial amputation of his forearm, compound fractures to his right elbow, shoulder, and leg, as well as significant blood loss.

Kubica has been working at getting back behind the wheel since healing from his injuries, and it was announced that he will drive for Williams full-time in 2019.

As the Polish driver gets ready for his comeback, check out this video from Formula 1 featuring the top-10 comeback stories.
