Jordan King Ready for Career Advancement in Move to IndyCar
With a career centered around Formula 1, Jordan King’s career will take another turn in 2018 as he is set to run the road and street courses for Ed Carpenter Racing, sharing the team’s No. 20 Fuzzy Vodka Chevrolet with team boss Ed Carpenter.
His journey to North American open-wheel competition began in 2016, when he began checking out the Verizon IndyCar Series.
“It had good racing,” he told POPULAR OPEN WHEEL. “I also feel it’s the right spot to be as I want to advance my career further, and look for other opportunities, based on what others have told me.”
Now set to make his debut at St. Petersburg next month, he admits that he has yet to set any goals, since as of the interview last week, he hadn’t been in the car yet.
“I am just looking forward to getting started,” he said.” I want to learn each week and continue to progress as a driver. I feel that I can contend, and run well, and hope to have a lot of success.”
He will have the right pieces in his corner, with having both Carpenter and teammate Spencer Pigot to lean on. Pigot experienced success last year, earning three top-ten finishes, highlighted by an eighth-place result at the Grand Prix of Long Beach.
“Everything is new, so to have someone to lean on is good,” he said. “I feel once I get in the car I will be fine, but there is lots to learn everywhere. In having Ed as an owner, and his experience, it will be a benefit. Then having Spencer, it will have to have a stable teammate every week at the track.”
While the season opener brings forth excitement, it’s not a surprise to see he is also excited for the Indianapolis Grand Prix in May.
“I am not running the Indy 500, so with the prestige, that is right up there next alongside it,” he said. “I’m also looking forward to the street circuits, too. Really, I’m excited to travel the United States, see these different places, and gain experiences. Talking to Ed, Spencer, and the other drivers, each of the road courses has their own characteristics and unique traits. I look forward to experiencing each of those.”
