2020 F1 Car Launch Dates Synopsis (Update No. 2)
With the 2020 driver’s grid pretty much set in stone for Formula 1, the next step is watching the teams reveal their entries for the season. Everybody is expected to host their reveal ahead of the February 19 test in Barcelona.
Here are the dates announced thus far as of January 30, 2020.
Ferrari will launch their 2020 campaign at the Romolo Valli Municipal Theatre in Reggio Emilia, the city where the Italian tricolore flag was born, and located around 30 kilometres away from Ferrari’s HQ at Maranello. The launch will be streamed online for those who cannot attend.
Renault will launch their 2020 campaign as part of an event titled ‘Shared Passion, One Vission’ with Daniel Riccardo and new recruit Esteban Ocon both present.
McLean will launch their ML35 at the McLaren Technology Centre, the team’s headquarters.
Mercedes will launch their 2020 campaign at Silverstone, in a private event they will perform an initial systems check with no media or spectators allowed to attend. The team has yet to confirm who will handle the controls first, but previously both Lewis Hamilton and Valterri Bottas have gotten the opportunity in what is a strictly mileage limited run-out on demonstration tires.
Toro Rosso will also reveal their new identity on the same date in Austria, under the new brand AlphaTauri.
SportsPesa Racing Point Formula 1 will launch their 2020 in the Austrian town of Mondsee, with Sergio Perez and Lance Stroll on hand. The reveal comes in their key sponsor BWT’s hometown. It marks their second full season since the team was purchased by a consortium led by Stroll’s father Lawrence, after placing seventh last year.
You are going to have to wait all the way until pre-season testing to see what is under the covers for the American team, as Haas F1 team will be revealing their VF-20 at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya on February 19. It’s a bit of irony as they will become one of the last reveals, in comparison to showcasing their car first last season. A lot of eyes are on them to see how they improve after placing ninth in the standings in 2019.
They won’t be the only team electing to reveal on the morning testing, as Alfa Romeo will uncover their 2020 entry just 45 minutes before testing begins. The team hopes to find the right combination for drivers Kimi Raikkonen and Antonio Giovinazzi in 2020 after placing eighth in the standings last year.
